d and, in a specific way, against the violences, the exploitments and the abuses committed against horses in the different activities in which man employes them.
We are not drastically opposed to the use of the horse in the sports and in the leisure time of man, under condition that such use is correct and that the Equestrian Associations, Organizations and Federations have in their constitutional act and apply very strict rules for the welfare of the horse, in conformity with the principles of the Brambell Report and with those regarding animal rights as stated in the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights (UNESCO, Paris 1978).
This applies also to those folk-traditions in which horses are used. We think that they are acceptable only if they do not remain tied to the aspects of a violent and uncivilized past, but they take place with a maximum respect for the animal, they conform to the new sensitiveness for animals which is developing in the world and do not offend it.
We actively collaborate with ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) and DVSP (Deutscher Vereinigung zum Schutz des Pferdes) in the issue of live transports of horses bound for slaughter from the eastern European countries.
We also collaborate with AVIPO, an association of Italian magistrates, for the development of a greater sensitiveness of the juridical world for the suffering of animals and a more careful and severe application in Italy of the existing specific Norm of the Penal Code.
Since the article of the Italian Penal Code (727 C.P.), which punishes the ill treatment of animals, is the best in Europe, we are working so that it will be accepted in its integrity in the eventual European Penal Code.
